Doyle, in retaliation for what has come to be known as the "Poison Spring Massacre" of the 1st Kansas Colored Infantry, to which you referred, the colored troops reportedly murdered Confederate prisoners captured later that month at Jenkins' Ferry. I recall reading somewhere that some of the bodies had been mutilated, but I can't find the specific references at the moment.
