Steve your answer makes perfect sense to me.

I only asked this question because another forum poster made an issue stating that the defenders of Fort Wagner considered the men of the 54th Mass to be traitors and criminals but then maintained the contradictory stand that they were then buried honorably as soldiers. So my question was, how exactly does one bury traitors and criminals with honor?

My point is, as always, that it cannot be both.
