I agree with David. Wouldn't it be less respectful to segregate Shaw from his men than to include him in the mass burial. It would seem to me that it would have been up to the family whether to leave him in South Carolina or return him to Boston after the hostilities were over. There are a lot of Federal Cemeteries in Virgimia full of Northern troops that never made it back home even after death.
