Response to my questions about the closed comments---

Good evening, I don't know the circumstances around this particular article, but what has typically happened in the past if one or more posters violate the site's terms and conditions of use by attacking other readers in an online discussion, or by using vulgar or hateful language, commenting on the article will be discontinued.

It's done as a last resort but if discourse in a thread goes outside accepted bounds and posters ignore warnings, commenting will be cut off.
