There was a less judgmental leaning at one time but after the 1960's it ramped up and the school textbooks had some heavy editing. I know now, the ones I see every day have little to no mention on it. Of course what is mentioned isn't the Southern version. It has been watered down and the students have been spoon fed the PC stuff for a very long time. It would be nice if some of todays students read some of the works by those who were in the thick of things but we are now seeing a generation where reading books is fading fast.
The kids now, the high school graduates, think Franklin was the second POTUS. I heard a teacher, while giving a math lesson on money, say Jefferson wasn't president but Hamilton was.
