Her grandfather, Aaron Jessie Nicks, was born on the Edwards Plateau and came to Phoenix before 1920. Her first album, titled Buckingham Nicks (named for her partner Lindsey Buckingham and herself), was dedicated to her grandfather. During the war Stevie's gggrandfather and his brother enlisted in Texas frontier service. A nephew who enlisted in Waul's Texas Legion disappeared during the Vicksburg Campaign.
On a personal note, she and Lindsey came to Alabama during the early 1970s and played to sell-out crowds. I became an ardent admirer during that time. Amazingly enough, almost everyplace else in the U.S., they remained unknown and unnoticed. In California for instance, she had to work as a waitress to pay bills.
In 1975 they joined Fleetwood Mac and within a few months became international stars. Same music, different name and record label. Go figure.
