It is my understanding the both the 18th Georgia and the 3rd Arkansas in their own time earned the respect of the Texas regiments and the title "3rd Texas".

Prior to the 3rd Ark. being assigned to the Texas Brigade they had already earned their spurs as a fighting unit at Sharpsburg, holding the line between Dunker Church and Bloody Lane. They were seen as a fitting substitute for the 18th Georgia. The comment was made when the 3rd Ark. marched into the Texas Camp the first time, "them 'toothpicks' are fighting men, They'll Do To Tie To."
