Thanks Dennis, I found out yesterday that at some point in time family members requested and got a VA headstone for the wife of a veteran. But does a man who served only 6 months on a State Guard unit really qualify as a veteran? But these stones look pretty old, so could it possibly have been that his family got the stones for both of them??
You brought up a lot of interesting ideas and avenues to follow to find a good answer. I did find out that the Troup County Archives has a bit of information about the Nancy Hart's, and a lot of names that were in the unit, but probably not a complete roster. I am going to LaGrange this afternoon, if I have time I will run by the archives and talk to them, and see what all I can find out about the family and the headstones. I will let you know what all I find as I gather the information.
