Mr. Mooty. Thanks for all the great information. I was the one that posted the change in the name. That came from one of my dad's best friends who was a Mooty. I am pretty sure the town in Alabama that you mentioned was Rock Mills. When McCooks men were trying to escape from the battle of Brown's Mill near Newnan, Ga. They broke into 3 seperate columns to try to get back to Sherman. The column that McCook led crossed the river at Philpot's Ferry, after a skirmish with Wheeler's Cavalry at the ferry. They then went toward Alabama, coming first to Rock Mills. I know most of the men went on toward Wedowee and then turned north to get back to Federal lines.
