Re: Mary E Mooty, soldier's wife

This petition presents an interesting commentary on the problems faced by soldiers families on the home front.

These ladies and a number of men were calling for the release from service of the physician, Dr Gauldin so he could return to his practice at Harrisonville, 10-1/2 miles North of LaGrange, apparently the location of the nearest physician. This due to the fact that soldiers families found it financially difficult in obtaining a physicians service due to the distance.

To. Col. C.[?] Heard, Commanding troops 37th Dist., May 31st, 1864

Petition signed by 13 men and 28 soldiers wives with Mary E. Mooty leading the list

Approved and Recommended Wm. J. Ringer, Capt.
Approved W. W. Cato, Lieut. Col. Com. Reg.
Disapproved W. K. de Gaffeuried, Maj. & A. A. Genl.
