Sounds like a good read, I didn't have that one on my radar screen. Had heard and read a bit about the BMI before. You mentioned the Provost Marshall service which was vastly different in the Eastern Theater than in the Trans-Mississippi with subsequently vastly different effects on the communities and troops around them. Look up a copy of Little Gods, the Provost Marshalls of Missouri and compare to what is described for the Washington area, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Its striking.
