Ken, I think the concern with the use of slaves was that they relieved white men to serve in the army, while they grew the crops and labored in the factories. I do not think that the slave owners would risk valuable property by using them for cannon fodder. Late in the war, when they did consider using slaves, it was by freeing them and making them soldiers. Stan
