That came out backwards. The Union troops is what I meant. My great granddaddy was in trenches at Fort Blakely with a company of 15,16 and 17 years old. There was 3000 Rebs with Mobile Bay to their right and Blakeley River behind them. The Union sent 5000 black troops against them. See the letter of Asa Piper, Co C. 62nd Al. Inf. "on the 9th of April the U.S. troops charged our thin line withe negros first, and we slaughtered them fast, some 2000 being killed in a few minutes..... then we were charged by five lines of battle (white troops) and captured. We were guarded by black troops, most of them from the south. they cursed us and called us all vulgar names they could think of even calling us _________ and we had to take it or be shot."

I had 6 great grandfathers fought for the south, 1 died during the war and 1 of wounds after the war. One captured and sent to the "Andersonville of the North" Camp Douglas. One surrendered with Lee at Appomattox. 1 resigned due to injuries during the war.

Never, Never question where my loyalty lies. Because my post are sometimes written in haste because I'm so mad at the time, thats my fault that they don't come out sounding like I intended.
