Stan- As i recall, you are right. The grouping together was for basic trainging only. For advanced training we were sent to where ever those school were located. The Third Army basic training was and still is at Ft. Jackson SC. I was there on "tank hill" in 1957. My grandson and grandson -in- law on "tank hill' 50 years later, The difference is I was in tents, they were in brick barracks.
