Hey Jim,
Neat post!! My great great grandfather was in the same company. He and your ancestor undoubtedly knew each other and might have been friends!! Mine was 1st Lt. John Warren White of Capt. John Blasingame's company, the "Spartan Rifles, Co. "K", Palmetto SharpShooters!! He was at first a corporal in Co. "K", 5th S.C., then went with Jenkins into the Palmetto SharpShooters. I have a pic of he and his wife taken in the 1850s and another one that I think is him in a S.C. uniform. If you are interested in these let me know and I will e-mail them to you.
Do you know much about their company, good ol' Co. "K"? I am looking for anything I can find on them. I know more or less where the unit went to in the war, where they fought, what happened to my ancestor, etc.c (He and three of his four brothers who died in the war). But I am mostly wanting to know all about their uniforms and equipment. I have heard and read that people saying things like, "I am now in a magnificant new regiment called the Palmetto SharpShooters!", or that they had nice new uniforms with green trim. Do you know about any of that?
Take care,
David Edelen
