Re: The Palmetto Sharpshooters
Hey George,
Anything on my gr gr grandfather and his brothers? Four of them served I know, not sure about the youngest:
1. Lt (later Pvt) John Warren White, Co. "K", Palmetto SS. Ws in 5th SC Vols at first. (wounded 7 Pines, resigned and went home. Reenlisted as a Pvt in 1864 and died from wounds at Ft. Harrison, Petersburg).
2. Pvt. William White, Same as above, died of Dyptheria sometime in 1862, not sure when.
3. Pvt. Rufus Belton White, same as above, lost an arm at Frayser's Farm 1862 and died next day.
4. Pvt. Hiram White, Jr.: was in 5th S.C. but seems to have stayed with them when the others went to the PSS. I have been told he died at Antietum, that he died in defense of Savannah or Columbia in 1865, etc.. Not sure.
5. Jasper C. "Jack" White. Not sure if he was in army, but was with his brother when he died in 1864.
