this conversation has piqued my interest. I have 4 gg-uncles who were soldiers; three of them were PSS. Makes me wonder why the 4th brother would not have been serving with the others - did it involve his ability? On the other hand, one of the brothers who did belong to the PSS was only 17 years old and was killed on Aug 30 1862 at 2nd Manasass. Could he have been such a sharpshooter at that age? Of course, these are country guys so it is possible. These were the Scates brothers - William, Lewis, Stewart & James Pinckney Scates. One of their younger brothers was said to have married a Seay and I notice a Rial Seay was also a PSS. Anyway, thanks for this thread. Having researched my guys for years, I feel like I already know your PSS guys as family!
