The "blue" jackets that you speak of were likely made of Blue Kersey material imported from England. While this material would not have been uncommon through out the war, it started to make a widespread appearance on Confederate after Gettysburg. There are many surviving examples of Richmond Depot, Tait, and NC jacket made from this material.
