I might have told about this before, but my White ancestors, five brothers, all served in Co. K, 5th S.C. Vols, a company called the Spartan Rifles from Spartanburg, S.C.. My great grandfather wrote that his father, John Warren White, was a corporal and then a Lieutenant in John Blasingame's company.

He and two or three of his brothers reenisted in the field into the PSS under Jenkins and again were in Co. K. Only one brother of the five, Jasper, all from Spartanburg, survived that war. The others all died in that war. One, Hiram White, Jr. stayed in the 5th SC and died in the Antietum battle or campaign. The other three; Rufus Belton White, died from his right arm being shot off at Fraser's Farm, William died of diptheria at Chizumbarro Hospital in Richmond.

Another brother, my great great grandfather John Warren White, a corporal in Co. K in the 5th SC, was promoted to 1st Lt in Co. K, PSS in 1862. He was severely wounded at Seven Pines, resigned and went home to heal up. In '64 he reenlisted in his old company (Co. "K", PSS) as a private. In an effort to retake Ft. Harrison he was wounded in the neck and died on the way home as his one surviving brother, Jasper, tried to take him home.

Jasper White, only about 16 or so at the time, later migrated to Texas along with other family and friends.
