Geez, George - you have me speechless. I have a little info on the records of these guys but nothing nearly
as detailed as this. The first young man you mention is indeed my gg-uncle Jonathan Stewart and he was only
17 years old when he died.
I do have a question - since you seem to have such a good handle on records - these men had cousins who lived
just across the NC/SC border and I have had a hard time with them. Although they lived in NC according to
census records, I have found them listed in SC regiments. These fellow were Matthew, George, & Thomas Scates/Skates but my real issue is with James Skates whose tombstone is in Kings Mtn.,NC and is inscribed "Davies Co. 7th SR Res. CSA".
I have written to the NC Archives but they returned a letter saying there was no record for him. Do you know where I
could go from here or how to decipher the inscription? Thanks for all the great info!
