Hello O. Lee Sturky and all,
Yep, I agree with you. But I think he re-enlisted out of patriatism and to watch out for his only surviing brother, Jasper White, who was onlyly 16 or 17. It was handed down in my family that Jasper "Jack" White was the only one of five brothers to survive the war. After researching and communicating with relatives, etc, I found out what happened to them. They were in Capt. John Blasingame's company from Spartanburg, "The Spartan Rifles", Co. "K", 5th S.C.. Then when their Regimental CO, Col. Micah Jenkins formed the PSS they reenlisted into it and again were known as Co. "K", PSS. Only Hiram White, Jr stayed with the 5th S.C. after that and was killed or died at or near Sharpsburg, MD in 1862.

My gr. gr grandfather, John Warren White, who had been a corporal in the 5th S.C., was promoted to 1st Lt. when he and his other brothers Pvt. Wm. White and Pvt. Ruful Belton White went with Col. Jenkins into the PSS. Beings as Jasper was only like 16 in 1863, I figure he showed up perhaps mid war or in '64, perhaps even went with John back up to Petersburg to join the boys from home. I have not found any records of Jasper White serving, but family tradition says he did.

I wish I could find some White relatives in Glenn Springs/Spartanburg, S.C. who might know. The other brothers had kids and many of their descendents are probably still in that area. But way before the war and after the war many relatives went to All, Tenn, Ga, La, Texas, etc.. I know some of the Blacks and some of my Whites did.

But I know that most of the descendents of John's brother William, who married a Harmon, remained in the Spartanburg area, as did those of Rufus B. White, who married a Nantz. All I know of Jasper is that he too migrated to Texas and died there in 1908. He had two sons, William and Bert White.

I wonder if there are any Stenhouse, Barclay, Black, Rakestraw, West, or White cousins, although distant ones, come to these boards? Just something I have wondered about.

Oh well, let me close. Forgive me for drifting off topic and getting longwinded and so much into family stuff.
Take care,
Dave
