5th South Carolina
David & all,
My GGGGrandfather Alfred C. Cook and his three brothers, William James, Jasper Newton and Calvin were in Co. K of the 5th South Carlina. Calvin was arrested for shooting a cow while on guard duty. (In Struck Eagle) and later served 6 months in a Charleston Prison for "KKK Activities." Alfred C. Cook was married to Sarah Jane Seay who's brother was Rial B. Seay, Captain of the 5th. In Struck Eagle, he was credited with shooting 3 Union Soldiers with his "long range rifle.' I have a picture of Rial in uniform but I am told by the curator of the Confederate Museum in Columbia that this wasn't the 5th's uniform but that he was wearing his SC Militia uniform. The picture was taken in Charleston right after Ft. Sumter. Will send if anyone is interested in this picture.
