"Born Fighting: How the Scots-Irish Shaped America" by Webb is a nice book but I wouldn't use it for a reference for material. Webb has a law degree, not a social anthropology or a history degree. His book is good to point out the history in America of this great culture but for me it is lacking the detail needed to understand. I recommend 'Albion's Seed', 'Bound Away', or 'The Cousins' Wars' for a clear understanding of the American Southern Culture made from the peoples of the Borderlands and the South of England.
