John Reynold's First Corps coming on line, Oliver Howard's Eleventh Corps, John Bufords Cavalry against Harry Heth's Division. Now who was outnumbered? Howard's Corps did manage an attempt at regrouping at Chancellorsville. After all they were falling back on their on right flank where the rest of the AOP was there to reinforce them. At Gettysburg they had to see the same scenario before them and acted accordingly. In artillery it's called firing on prolonge. They fired while retreating. The Eleventh was never looked upon with great favor again.
