Support for secession was not unanimous. Many who supported the Union, especially in places like East Tennessee and NW Arkansas were cruelly victimized by their neighbors and some by their families. You didn't have to move north to experience intolerance. A short while back, a thread was proposed to discuss this issue on the Arkansas site but I don't think there was much interest in the fate of Southerners who did not support secession. Northern Copperheads are still vilified in contemporary history books. (Please don"t ask me for a citation!) Joe
