Could it be possible that since many of us in the South are descended from people who were proud, and we recognize they were 'territorial snobs' (just can't think of a better way to say it) and that is what has been carried over through the years? There's nothing wrong with it. This type of emotion is not exclusive to the South but it seems to be challanged more here. Many of our CW ancestors were not that many generations removed from the 'other' war for independence and they understood that feeling of pride in place. We seem to always be explaining our ancestors and we shouldn't have to. Everyone has a family history. Everyone has the right to learn of it and to honor it.
