Whatever happened to the idea that the states were independant as to the actions inside of their borders as long as they did not interfere with the best interest of the unified states? They were unified for protection from foriegn threats in the beginning weren't they?
I don't think "Southern apologist" applies to anyone here. Haven't heard any 'I'm sorry' and don't think we see things that way. Most of the examples and documents that have been posted are clear on the reasons and no one need defend them. The words stand alone. One state began the series of events that led to the whole shabang. The other states rallied around that one state because there was more agreement with the one state than the Federal govt. I'm finding the political climate of today a very good example of the feelings that those Southern states may have had. It's not just one issue or event but many that lead to a large burst. Frustration with the lack of the peoples voice being heard or worse being ignored is a dangerous thing in government.
